ARB
ARBLocation: West Gosford
Completed: 2020
Client: Hunter Group Holdings
This was a complete knock down and redevelopment on this site. This project was several years in the making but in the end they delivered a wonderful building and showroom. ARB spefically chose the colours and layout and designed a stained pathway around the polished floor.
The warehouse and workshop received a cream polish to ensure the space maintained a dustproof surface and keep the space as clean as possible. This was an effective low cost option with the best long term results.
With regular cleaning and maintenance this floor should shine for generations.

Boathouse
BoatHouseBuilder: Peloton
Originally complete: 2015
Refurbished: 2017
This project was a challenge due to working within a council-owned heritage building situated on a busy beach in a nature reserve. Working around the trades was a delicate ballet to keep the project moving forward whilst not impeding each other.
Due to the site being next to the beach and incorrect cleaning chemicals use, the floor needed a refurbishment 2 yrs later. This lead to Diagrind creating personalised cleaning and maintenance programs to each client. Whilst a scrubber and burnisher and chemicals were purchased for this project unfortunately procedures were not followed. Due to being next to the beach a thorough program needs to be adhered to, to be able to appreciate the longevity of polished concrete floors.

BRUSH ROAD

Brush Road
Concretor - B & K Developments NSW
Architect - Osmond McLeod Architects
Builder - B & K Developments NSW
Completion Date: August 2018
Winner - . Custom Built Home $800k - $1.5m.The Brush Road project was organised and run flawlessly from start to end and the team at B & K Developments (project) were a pleasure to work with. The professionalism on this site made this project come together with relative ease, the straight lines in the design and muted colour pallet make this a home that will stand the test of time not only in construction but also design. The Concrete was a basalt mix and installed by B & K developments (the builder). The initial grind and polishing was performed prior to any walls being installed. During the building process the floor was protected to help prevent any damage caused by the building process. At the end of the project we returned to give the floor a clean and buff, however it was protected so well during the build this wasnt necessary.
This project recently won the Custom Built Home of the year 2019 and we can see why.
The judge’s comments were: -
“The clean lines and styling of this generously proportioned home disguises the complexities involved in its construction. The commitmet of the builder is demonstrated by a consistent quality of workmanship evident throughout the building and in its more distinctive features, such as the polished concrete floor that extends throughout the ground floor.”
You can see the workmanship that went into this project with an expertly designed and finished kitchen by Artform Kitchens. You can see how each element of this build complements each other. As you can see the homeowners and the builders are thrilled with the final outcome. The polished concrete finish is an architectural feature of this home and with love and care it will last its lifetime.

Clark Rubber
Clark RubberLocation: 2 different stores
Client: Franchisee
These stores had varying degrees on concrete quality. In both the best option was to grind the floor and apply a polyurethane sealer. One store had a new section of concrete installed which allowed us to diamond polish the entrance. Whilst a polyurethane sealer isnt the most eco option sometimes it is the best option for the floor and its intended use.
As with every project floor prep is the most critical factor. Each floor was ground to a good clean surface and all previous floor coverings removed. Cracks were patched prior to the floor receiving three coats of polyurethane sealer. This floor should last these clients many years with a good cleaning schedule.

Commercial Kitchen
Commercial KitchenLocation: Newcstle
Scope: Client wanted an easy to clean surface.
The existing floor was epoxy and it was significantly deteriated and stained. We created a flat clean surface with a system to easily clean and maintain over time. As it was a commercial kitchen coving was a requirement. We dsigned a white coving base to assist with the cleaning and give that seemless look to the floor. Completing this project over summer, to say it was hot was an understatement. However the client only have a defined amount of downtime so we worked within the timeline.
Overall this floor came out looking a million dollars. It stayed inside the clients scope and will give an easy to maintain floor.

Hilti

Hilti Store
Builder: Corporate Construction Group
Location: Alexandria
Specifications was to grind floor to expose the aggregate and polish to #1500 grit and seal with an impregnating sealer.
Thankfully we were able to complete the works before the fitout began. We worked closely with the Team at CCG to achieve a high end but durable finish for this Hilti store. Even rain damage from storms couldnt hurt this floor. A quick visit from the team at Diagrind and we brought the floor back to its original finish before hand over to the client.

Lands Building
Lands BuildingBuilder: Hansen Yunken
Terrazzo: DM Terrazzo
Tiles were mostly removed by other contractors, we prepped the floor, applied a primer and trims to the floors before installing DM Terrazzo floor.
This flooring project was broken into several stages. This building was still open and functioning so acess to the lifts needed to be maintained. This meant lots of night works in some areas. The Team and site managers worked so well together to make this installation as seemless as possible during the middle of a pandemic.
Control and expansion joints were special ordered from Latham Australia and installed prior to pouring. Due to this being a main throughfair a P3 non-slip finish was chosen which gives a matte to satin finish on the floor.
The beauty of this system is if any repairs or rectifcation works are needed the floor is able to be removed, replaced and blended back in to disappear. Case in point is a door threshold was miscalculated so we had to return months later to pour a new section. It seemlessly blends in.

Lyons House

LYONS HOUSE
Location: Blue Bay, NSW
Construciton: $2.275 M, Completed 2016
Bulding Area: 173m²
Site area: 549m²
Awards: 2018 Newcastle Architecture Awards Residential Architecture
Architect: EDH Group
Builder: EDH Group
Mix: 100 % Basalt.
This project was different to many of our others in the past. The polished concrete wasnt the main flooring chosen. It was picked for specifc spaces. The entry and wet areas all had polished concrete as well as a few other spaces. The use of off form concrete combined with natural timbers and sandstone really bring this project to life.
To complete the bathrooms a large protortion of the project was built. bathroms were waterproofed and a topping slab was installed. This ensured that there are no water leaking issues and the client gets the polished concrete floors in the spaces they chose.

Moonan Flats

Moonan Flats
Architect/Designer: H2O Architecture
Concrete Contractor: Upper Hunter Concreting
Completion Date: 2016
Winner - . New Construction Polished Concrete of the Year 2017.The remote location of this house, which was designed to resemble a woodshed, created many challenges to achieve this finish. Transporting the concrete to the site was a challenge the contractor and the producer were able to overcome. Diagrind ® worked closely with the concrete contractor to ensure the concrete was placed correctly to achieve the desired finish.
The next major design challenge was when the client requested tiles to be cut into the polished concrete slab and grouted to make the floor look like it was large polished concrete tiles within the residence. The required time and patiences to mark out and cut each tile line correctly to give that natural and seemless look. This was done by using long 16-foot tracks by Festool which were suction cupped to the floor after the floor was ground to expose the aggregate and grouted. The DSC 125 Festool cutter was then used to cut a 4-mm line throughout the slab. A lot of time was spent ensuring that the pattern was uniform throughout the interior and evenly spaced.
Once cut, the cuts were filled with CTS Wunderfixx mixed with 5% black oxide. The whole floor was then grouted for a second time, densified and polished. With both internal and external spaces the floor was expertly treated to give a smooth tranisition between spaces.
This project offered unique challenges for many trades to overcome. The entire batch plant was booked out for the day to ensure no cross contamination and each batch had to travel over 1.5 hours to site. Without the hard work and communication between the trades a project to this high of a calibur would not have been so successful. Although the project was difficult, the high level of craftsmanship produced a superior result for the client.

Moran Residence
Moran Residence
Concrete Easymix
80% Quartz 20% Basalt
Concretor - B & K Developments NSW
Architect - SJH Planning & Design
Builder - B & K Developments NSW
Completion Date: October 2017
Winner - . Custom Built Home $800k - $1.5m.The Moran Residence was a fantastic project to work on. The team at B & K Developments (https://bkdevelopments.com.au/erina-heights-luxury-residential-new-build/ ) are a pleasure wot work with. The professionalism on this site made this project come together with relative ease and it is no wonder this home has won awards. The Concrete was supplied by Ezymix and installed by B & K developments (the builder). The initial grind was performed prior to any walls being installed. During the building process the floor was protected to help prevent any damage caused by the building process. The polishing occurred after the walls and roof were installed as this worked best for the project every project is different.
This project needed to be completed in a few stages. This house had bathrooms that required polished concrete, so the initial construction slab was poured and the bathrooms were stepped down to allow for a topping slab to be installed after waterproofing. This allowed for the tanking of wet areas which is necessary in Australia to meet with codes and standards. The house was polished in the first stage and the bathrooms in the second. The bathrooms required fall to be ground into the floor and the drains were also polished concrete so had to be carefully poured and polished separately. When the topping slab of the bathroom was poured the same concrete was poured into a smart tile insert floor waste. This was then taken off site and polished using the same methods. When installed it fit perfectly into the space. The transitions from the wet areas (bathrooms and laundry) had to be carefully polished to ensure the floor looked like it had been polished at the same time as the remainder of the house.
In the step down lounge area the floor was polished up to the stairs. Then The Festool DSC230 was used to cut a completely straight line to allow the timber to seamlessly join into the polished concrete. Time was spent getting this cut perfect so the timber was able to match in without any additional gaps.
The use of natural materials, timber and concrete really made this project sparkle.

Neds Beach House
Ned's Beach House Location: Shelly Beach, NSW
Architect: EDH Group
Builder: Gordon Haggerty Constructions
Awards: Australian Institute of Architecture Newcastle Division's 2015 New Home's awards- EDH
Mix: River Pebble
This was a very complicated project. Extreme effort went into the formwork to get all the walls, floors, ceilings and feature pieces poured in the right way. Nearly every surface of this build is concrete. The use of black and core 10 steal and timber accents really bring this project to life.
The project was completed over many stages with our equipment needing to be craned onto different levels. There is an east and west wing in this build with different features and levels.
The bathrooms and wet areas were poured separately to allow for waterproofing to occur. All walls and cielings internally and externally were also treated with DryTreat Stain Guard.
