Why is placement so important? You can just grind it out and fix it right .....?

You can see in this picture marks left behind by the screed being left/pushed on the concrete slab. Is this a big problem? Your going to helicopter over the top right it will end up all smooth and even so its not a problem right?

WRONG !

If concrete is not placed correctly this will cause artefacts in the slab that cannot be ground out. The two biggest culprits of this are screed marks from resting the screed on the surface and boot marks. When you step backwards it is important to fill the holes left by the boot with a shovel of fresh concrete. If you simply pull the slurry over to fill the hole you will end up with boot prints that cannot be ground out. It is important that the concrete is placed correctly to ensure these problems dont occur. As you can see from the picture below by not placing the concrete correctly there is now artefacts in the slab that cannot be removed. Nothing can fix this, this will be in the polished concrete forever.

Picture showing surface marks from screeding, the screed must never rest on the surface. Screed marks after the concrete was ground; distribution of aggregates is a bit uneven.

Prior to installing any new concrete slab we ask all owners and builders to contact us. We will discuss what finish is required for the type of finish of polished concrete. Every type of polished concrete can have a slightly different way to finish it. Polished concrete is a high end finish so it needs the time and respect given to it like you would a marble floor finish. By taking care in the placement you are ensuring that concrete polishers can give you the finish you want.
